Who invented the Internet?
In October of 1995, The Federal Networking Council adopted the following resolution to define the term “Internet.”
Resolution: The Federal Networking Council (FNC) agrees that the following language reflects our definition of the term “Internet.” “Internet” refers to the global information system that:
1 - logically linked together by a globally unique address space based on the Internet Protocol (IP) or its subsequent extensions/follow-ons.
2 - able to support communications using the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) suite or its subsequent extensions/follow-ons, and/or other IP-compatible protocols.
3 - provides, uses or makes accessible, either publically or privately, high level services layered on the communications and related infrastructure described herein.

For our purposes, the Internet has two definitions that are shorter than the one above.
From a “computer perspective" - the Internet is a network of networks, linking computers to computers.
From a “people perspective" - the Internet is a general-purpose, international communication and information system.
Each computer connected to the Internet uses software to provide or “serve” information and/or to access and view information.
The Internet is the transport vehicle for all of the information travelling from one computer to another . It is sometimes compared to a giant international plumbing system. The Internet itself does not contain information. It is a misstatement to say, "I found it on the Internet"; It would be more correct to say " found it using the Internet" since the document was found on one of the computers linked to the Internet.
Who runs the Internet? Since the Internet is a collection of smaller networks, no single organization or person is in charge. Each network connected to the Internet is responsible for its own administration and maintenance.
