M.U.G. editing and M.U.G. writing allow students to prepare for class by getting started with a task as soon
as class begins with the sounding of the bell. M.U.G. editing is presented in the form of a worksheet.
M.U.G. writing is presented with a writing task written on the chalkboard.
On the M.U.G. editing worksheet, twenty [20] grammatically incorrect sentences are presented. Students work on two [2]
sentences per day when assigned and are provided with the number of errors in each sentence as a clue. Students find and
fix errors in capitalization, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Checking the board will let the students know
which sentences are to be completed upon entering the classroom.
M.U.G. writing requires students to write a variety of sentences employing a variety of writing skills. Students read
the task and copy it into their notebook. Below the task, students write a sentence that meet the task requirements.
While students work independently, it allows the teacher to take attendance and distribute any work to students who may be returning from class
absence. After an approximately three-minute period, students are asked to provide the corrections or proofread
their written sentence. All students are required to make the appropriate correction on their papers using the correct proofreading
symbols. The rewriting of M.U.G. sentences in final copy form is not required.
